Climate changes have a deep impact on water resources management, as water scarcity and droughts dramatically show – also in our Region. However, climate changes do not affect only water resources, but also the economy, agriculture, energy and tourism.

Following the principles of water demand-side management, it is crucial that European Regions develop together effective strategies of mitigation and adaptation to cope with climate changes and their effects, through an integrated approach based on water saving and conservation, wastewater reuse and recycle, infrastructure improvement, economic incentives, education and information campaigns, etc.

Against this background, the exchange of experiences and practices is a powerful tool that allows European Regions to find shared solutions to the global issue of climate changes. This tool represents the real “core” of "Water CoRe": an ambitious and challenging project in which I am eager to take part.

This project is cofinanced by the ERDF and made possible by the INTERREG IVC programme

The Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC, financed by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund, helps Regions of Europe work together to share experience and good practice in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk prevention. EUR 302 million is available for project funding but, more than that, a wealth of knowledge and potential solutions are also on hand for regional policy-makers.
