A brief introduction


REC is an international organization with a mission to assist in solving environmental problems by promoting cooperation among environmental stakeholders and by free exchange of information and public participation in environmental decision making, thanks to its 19 offices in 17 Central and Eastern Europe countries and a head office in Hungary. REC has extensive experience in managing large, multi-country projects supporting development and implementation of policies and legislation, capacity-building, public involvement, information diss., communication and awareness-raising in the field of environm. protection and sustainable development.

REC has outstanding expertise on water management regularly contributing to all major European, global and national processes, as the ICPDR activities in developing RBM Plans and public participation strategy in the Danube basin and impl. various projects on water related directives in new MS and SEE. REC supports the authorities in developing >
> and implementing climate change policies and assists stakeholders in the CEE and SEE implementing of UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol. REC is to serve as the regional focal point of Article 6 for UNFCCC on education, training, information dissemination, stakeholder involvement and awareness raising; is a part of the EEA ETC/ACC, member of the ENEA and chairs the WG "Climate Change and Cohesion policy".

As a project partner, REC will contribute to the development of project outputs, seminars, and capacity-building sessions, also coordinate input from new EU MS and CEE, collecting good practices examples, ensure participation of various regional stakeholders, and disseminate project results throughout the region.

REC’s potential benefit of the project would be a further building up of knowledge, improvement of its existing instruments as well as the development of new ones that will spread understanding and skills within beneficiary countries and beyond and endorse REC’s mission.
