Mme Monique Pétard, Vice Présidente déléguée à l’Environnement et à l’Agenda 21

The General Council of Herault is a major player in water policy implementation at the local, national and international level.

Over the years, through direct and concrete action, we have contributed to a more sustainable management and equitable use of water ressources on our territory, whilst responding to the needs of our citizens.

To do this we have undertaken a long term engagement in the fields of drinking water, water treatment, integrated watershed management, flood prevention and drought mitigation.

But our sphere of action is also the European space that unites us, and our work is thus guided by the common challenge we all share: the respect and implementation of the Water Framework Directive, and its integration into our policies to combat climate change. These are challenges which call upon collective action. We have a common cause - it is now important for us to pool our ressources. We each have differing capacities and know-how emanating from the diverse experiences we have on our territories. The WATER CORE project, in which I'm proud to participate, will allow us to capitalise on these varied experiences to better achieve together that which we are already doing individually: improved and more equitable sustainable water management.

This project is cofinanced by the ERDF and made possible by the INTERREG IVC programme

The Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC, financed by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund, helps Regions of Europe work together to share experience and good practice in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk prevention. EUR 302 million is available for project funding but, more than that, a wealth of knowledge and potential solutions are also on hand for regional policy-makers.
