Lucia Puttrich, Minister of the Environment and Energy, Agriculture and Consumer Protection.

Climate change, demographic change, reliable provision with energy and resources like water and food, mobility in a sustainable way in a mobile society – the challenges for the environmental protection will be numerous and extensive. But it is for sure: we are obliged to act today, when we intend to pass on a worth living environment to the generations to-be.
Bearing this mission in mind, I am grateful to see the cooperation of so many regions and members states in Europe together, in order to tackle the issues of water scarcity and drought.

The State of Hesse will actively and constructively contribute its long experiences in water management to the Water CoRe project. On the one hand, in Hesse almost 5 million people work and live in the metropolitan Rhine-Main area. On the other hand, my region also consists of large-scale rural areas with forestry and agriculture. Therefore the policy of water management in Hesse ever since required a well-balanced governance of competitive interests.

This project is cofinanced by the ERDF and made possible by the INTERREG IVC programme

The Interregional Cooperation Programme INTERREG IVC, financed by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund, helps Regions of Europe work together to share experience and good practice in the areas of innovation, the knowledge economy, the environment and risk prevention. EUR 302 million is available for project funding but, more than that, a wealth of knowledge and potential solutions are also on hand for regional policy-makers.
